Why Do Opposites Attract Then Repel?

Ever noticed how you always seem to fall in love with someone very different to you? If they like to go to bed early, you probably prefer going to be bed late. If they talk a lot and socialize, you may often feel like not talking and be happy to stay home.

We are attracted to the opposite because we are seeking in some way to become whole, to be completed somehow. This attraction creates a chemistry with someone who has the very qualities we are lacking.

In the beginning, we see this difference as something beautiful and special and appreciating it easily because of the abundance of love. However as time passes, we realize that these desirable qualities present in our partners, have not magically transferred into us.

As our own unmet needs start to again dominate our ego personality (which only values it’s own desires and safety), these “differences” are can easily become quite irritating.

And then a problem emerges because typically, people believe that all they have to do is be loving, and everything else will be ok. The truth is that falling in love is just the beginning of the journey together, it points you in the right direction but the vital work of personal growth has just begun, and it needs be nurtured and developed.

It is easy to forget that you have attracted a wonderful being into your life with many inspirational qualities that you can also aspire to and develop.

So next time you look at your partner, try looking more deeply to see the beauty that is available and offered, and offer your own best qualities in return in the most loving way you can.
