What is Love? …And What Love Is Not

We spend most of the energy in our life trying to attain love, yet we are often unaware and unknowing of the process of love. We seek to secure love by finding the “right” person who will fill up our heart with love.

When do you feel most loving?

If a person you didn’t feel so much for offered their love to you, it would not have much value, it would not fill your heart up with love. Even if your loving partner expressed their love to you and you were very stressed by something at work, you might not feel it.

Love is experienced most intensely when we feel and express our love to someone, when our hearts are overflowing and we simply have the urge to share it. It is our love that makes us feel good and not others loving us. It is the giving of love that make us happy, not the getting of love from others.

This simple realisation eludes us because we create so many reasons not to overflow with love. Our fears make us seek perfectionism, demand services (security, cooking, shopping, cleaning, intimacy, etc.), unleash high expectations, constantly criticise and continually compare and judge. How many stories could you tell of how your partner is not good enough? When we rise above this ego view of the world and drop these reasons not to love, we naturally love.

LOVE IS NOT

Love is not waiting for someone to make you happy…

Love is not trying to change someone…

Love is not requiring your partner to do things for you…

Love is not expecting your partner to fulfil you…

Love is not winning if your partner loses…

Love is not having positive thoughts about them when you are happy and negative thoughts when you are not…

Love is not soothing your fears or distracting you from problems…

Love is not taking or expecting something in return….

LOVE IS

Love is giving…

Love is unconditional…

Love is forgiving…

Love is letting go of attachment…

Love is overcoming fear…

Love is taking risks…

Love is your responsibility to keep it alive…

Love is your primary purpose...
